About Laura
Laura, on the banks of the Rocky River near the start of the Flinders Ranges, 220km north of Adelaide, was named after the wife of Herbert Bristow Hughes. The first blocks of land were offered for sale in 1872, having been surveyed the previous year.
Be sure to purchase a “walking guide” from the helpful staff at the Laura Information Centre, then take a leisurely stroll around town imagining how the town looked in the days when bullock teams travelled along the wide main road, and horses were hitched to the Kurrajong trees while their owners visited the local stores. Discover Laura’s historic buildings, homes and gardens.
Laura Information Centre in the main sreet is staffed by volunteers who are keen to make your visit to Laura a most memorable one. Phone (08) 8663 2260 for further information on the delights that await you at Laura.
